Abstract
Chinese Crude Drugs which have been used from ancient times in Korea and South-East Asian countries have significant meannings for national public health, but their quality control still remains as a problem to be settled.
Crude drugs under even the same name show quiet few disparities in their original species and content due to their different geographical soil and climate of othe countries.
Therefore, it¢¥s an urgent necessity to investigate the atandardization of them for their quality control.
In effect some attempts of establishing standardization of crude drugs were made in the past.
For instance, the "Codex Coreanum"in 1941, and in 1957 the "Standards of Crude Drugs" were published, but no further studies, continued edition or revision was made ever since. Our Institute, therfore, is on the way of investigation of selected 700 kinds of herbal, annimal and mineral crude drugs in Korea market that are being used for lerbal treatment of patients as a part of the series of annual projects for the purpose of unifying the standardization of them, by making clear the origin, identification, quantitative analysis of their special and general contents in percentages for instance, water and alcohol and ether extracts, Ashes, acid insoluble ashes, Essential oils.
We, herewith, report the finding and results of 25 kinds of Crude Drugs.
